ZEP Kozani FTTH Project |
Joint venture between Link S.A. and Hellascom International recently completed ZEP Kozani FTTH, a project with a total budget of 1.8 M euro. ZEP Kozani is a new built community, located about 110 km southwest of the city of Thessaloniki, in northern Greece. Three hundred houses were individually connected, making this the biggest FTTH community currently in Greece. The network was based on a point to point access architecture utilising one fiber per user. The most advanced fiber materials and techniques were applied. A wide range of multiducts combined with blown cables were installed underground. Low bend radius fibers were terminated on mechanical no polish connectors within the residencies, connecting compact wall mounted fiber gateways and videophones. Modern applications such as IPTV (including pay per view and video on demand), Web TV, email and distant electronic learning are a solid reality now over the newly deployed optical network. The successful implementation of this project opens new horizons for the optical networks in the area and renders Greece a land of opportunity in this field of the telecoms business.
